I inquired about this, to which the driver indicated it wasn't working properly. He asked my destination and I gave him a street to go to, but not my actual address. After we began driving, I asked if he would then be able to accept a credit card payment, to which he said he wasn't sure. I told him it may be difficult to pay him, then, as my understanding was that all taxis were required to accept credit cards. He paused and said we could stop at an ATM, but then after an awkward pause recanted and said that his meter and tablet were "probably working".

After exiting the taxi I began walking down the street, but the taxi driver sat there watching me. This made me very uncomfortable, so I simply kept walking until, upon looking back, I saw him finally driving away. He may have been waiting for another call to come in, certainly, but from my perspective he certainly had his eyes on me the entire time. I certainly didn't want him knowing where I lived.

Details:

Upon arriving at the indicated street (one in my neighborhood, but not the one I live on), I indicated where he could drop me off. He offered to take me directly to my home, but I told him where I indicated was fine. I inquired about the cost. The taxi driver then proceeded to power on the meter and tablet. The meter was at '1' and the tablet reflected the base fee of $3.5, the '1' from the meter, a '$0' Tip, and a total.

Don’t give it 0 because I can’t worst service in the whole world

He radioed the dispatcher from the airport and inquired about the cost; the dispatcher said it "should be around $10".

Once my taxi arrived and I got in, I noticed that the meter was powered off and so was the connected tablet.

Taxi ride from hell. Some people font belong behind the steering wheel of a car. Never again.

If I could post this with 0 stars I would have done so.

I inquired if the taxis accepted credit cards as payment from the dispatcher who was stationed at the airport. His response was that "some do, some don't; it depends on if it's working". I then inquired about the estimated cost; he said that he guessed it would be around $10.

Likes to threaten people and follow when they aint doing nothing wrong just driving

I watched the driver proceed to type in $11 in the Tip field. He then told me the total was $15.50. I questioned this and inquired about the exact rate. He tried to reassure me that it was indeed $15.50. I then told him I knew that the base fee was $3.50 plus the mileage cost of approx $2/mile. As the trip from the airport to my street was approximately 3.5 miles, that would bring the total to $10.50. He tried to argue that there were other factors and that the $15.50 was correct. I let him know that I had watched him type $11 into the tip field, and that I was not about to give him an $11 tip. I suggested that he check with his supervisors on what the actual rate was, as he had no official documentation in the taxi about the rates, at least not that he would provide me.

I gave the taxi driver $11 in cash. While I knew at that point he could accept credit cards (based on the miraculously working tablet) I was not about to even risk using a credit card for fear of him trying to recharge it later. It was obvious he was trying to screw me and the taxi company at the same time by billing the minimum amount for the fare and giving himself a large tip.

Upon requiring a taxi from Albany Airport to my home, I noticed the signage at the airport indicating that, by Albany County Law, all Capitaland Taxis must accept credit cards.

I order a car the night before for a 9:45 am pick up from my Fathers house. I also called in the morning to make sure I was scheduled since I had to leave on Amtrak for New York. I had to call twice once at 9:46 to be told he is 11 minutes away. Again at 1000 to see where the cab was. Dispatcher put me on hold and came back with the driver had a flat tire got it fixed and should be there in 5 minutes. He apologized, however, I should have been contacted since they did have my number. The cab finally arrived. Once in the car was filthy. I had not choice but to get in or miss my train. I have never seen a car so dirty in my life. It also sounded as if it were going to cut off at any moment. The young man got me to the train with minutes to spare. I told him he should quit and not drive this car. It was horrible. I will not be using them again.

Summary: Taxi driver tried to charge me more than the fare should have been and also tried to screw the taxi company itself in the process. I will never use Capitaland Taxi again and, honestly, I hope that with the presence of Uber and Lyft, Capitaland Taxi gets their act together and starts enforcing rules and regulations (similar to NYC) or they will quickly find themselves with fewer and fewer customers.
